Dion Guitars Wenge/German Spruce
It's been a long couple of months moving shops and getting things just right, I've never had a shop set-up quite so nice! It's maybe stating the obvious to say that an organized shop with good flow allows one to work at the high level a guitar maker needs to. Here's a few picture of one of the builds I started this week.

I spent the day at the thickness sander getting things ready to bend and brace.

Hey all, I've decide to double up the guitars on this thread. I'm currently building the aforementioned Weng/German guitar as well as an Espave/Sitka. Both are my No. 03 body shape. The Wenge/German is my standard guitar, while the Espave/Sitka will be my new Satellite option. The Satellite is my attempt to offer a guitar that looks, plays and sounds like my guitars do, but at a more accessible price point. I'll accomplish this mostly by the reduction in options. The Satellite will come with standard woods, a matte finish and won't come with a custom case. The reduced time consulting with the client and the ability to bulk make parts will allow me to offer the Satellite for about 35% less than my standard model. The only upgrade will be the finish. Thanks for taking a look.

It's a very warm day in Edmonton, a bit concerning, but great for using hide glue.

Looking great. I have not seen the sound hole braced like that before, it looks really cool. Like the rosette figure as well, zebra wood?

Thanks. I like to keep the area around the sound hole very stiff, this pad does the job! For the rosette I used end grain Wenge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Your guitars look great - very curious to see how the wenge guitar turns out.

Thanks for taking a look at the thread! Yeah, it was 15 degrees Celsius yesterday here in Edmonton. Normally it'd be more like -15! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I just finished bracing both the German top and the Sitka. I'll do a little final testing and carving early next week and hopefully have the boxes closed by late week.

Most interesting bracing pattern on the top. The radial wenge rosette is greater

Is wenge a heavy or dense wood? I ask because I've only played one wenge guitar, it sounds great but is noticeably heavier than your typical EIR. Didn't know if that was the rule or the exception.

In my experience wenge has a higher density than EIR. It has a very glassy tap tone. I really like wenge, it's beautiful, makes good sounding guitars and it's relatively easy to find straight, well quartered pieces. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
