Use to be a 5 mile drive from the Lower East to the upper west side (NYC). It could range from any were form 1/2 hour to 1 hour.

Now I can drive 30 miles in less then 1/2 hour. LOVE IT

40.1 miles one way. Takes me about an hour. It is a winding Farm-to-Market Road through some beautiful pine forests, past fields with cows, horses, and donkeys, and through the Angelina River bottoms.

On that drive I frequently see: wild hogs, white tail deer, possum, raccoons, fox, red-tailed hawks, and the rare bald eagle.

When I lived in Austin it was a 15 mile commute that took 30 minutes in the morning and 45 minutes to get home. The scenery was somebody's bumper and tail lights!

I like this one better! 19 more months and I retire. Then no commute at all!

Look at the hours a day being wasted by all these people commuting.

Retired now

But back in the day My commute was a bit unusual. (and not a minute wasted )Because it was my favorite part of my work day.... It varied from 45 to 55 miles thru some of the most spectacular Mt. scenery in the US ( I will use some photos to help explain why ) But First it varied depending on the location of the construction project.

I would leave from my drive way

This shot is about a 1/2 mile behind my house overlooking the highway for most of my commute. It is down the hill behind me, just at my left hip and under my left arm you can see it S curve

downhill 9 miles from my house it hit the river bottom and follows the river for another 30 miles here is shaot going down the hill in the spring

This is at the bottom of the hill in winter the Hoback river is on the right

They did install a few traffic lights right in the town Jackson but for most of commute this is about the only thing that would stop traffic

I commuted 30 miles each way for 13 years for work. And that's not counting the miles I drove for work.

I'm 40 and on permanent disability from an accident 3 years ago. Nearly died. So now I drive 3 blocks to physiotherapy twice a week.

Mine's in stages of luck.

1. Move from kitchen to the office in den with nice view outside.
2. Move to office in basement.
3. Go to data center HQ location 4.3 mi and a nice bike ride when luck.
4. Go to one of the business unit locations 2.6 mi away.
5. Go to one of the business unit locations 76 mi away.

Most of the time #3 is a 14 min one way door to door with car and 23-26 min by bike.

My wife rubs in my long ago resistance to our neighborhood (cost) but it's really sweet. It's cut down schlepping kids, shopping, and MTB trails are 2 mi from my driveway.

I'm not a fan of #5. Milwaukee's kind of the nation's arm pit if Chicago below it is the crotch.

Basically yes actually South East toward Pinedale . We have place above Bondurant , 9 1/2 miles at the top of the grade
In the photo of our dog and me X country skiing We are right on the ridgeline that divides the Snake River watershed, from The Green River watershed.
Everything from my right ski pole and down the hill behind me flows into the Snake River and Everything from my right ski pole and towards the camera flows into the Green River

3.2 miles, and about 8 minutes. Two stoplights, one round-about and two stop signs.

Sooo wish it was reasonable to ride my bicycle, but the roads are narrow with no shoulder. Occasionally I encounter somebody riding a bicycle. They are either in the middle of the lane, really holding up traffic (there's nowhere to pass), or they are on the shoulder, being narrowly missed by dozens of cars... Uncool.

19.8 miles each way, one stop sign, 2 lights and 2 roundabouts. 25 minutes, unless it snows hard or someone crashes on the Big Highway. The record is an hour and 25 minutes. Many cars crashed on the Big Highway that day.
