Default Played short scale Squire Mustang electric guitar.

I finally got a chance to play the 24" scale length Squier Mustang today at Guitar Center. First time. Not a fan of the scale length at all. I solo a lot around the 12th - 17th frets and I found there wasn't enough room for me and everything felt a little "off".

I'm a big fan of Gibson's 24 3/4" and I have no problem adapting with Fender's 25.5" up there either. I could adapt with the 24" scale length but the guitar doesn't intrigue me enough.

Have you played 24" electric guitars like the Mustang? Your thoughts?

I have a 24" scale Squier VM Jaguar that I love to bits. Next to my Rickenbackers, it's my favourite electric guitar.

Specs like this have never bothered me. If you think about it, if you capo a 25.5" guitar at the 1st fret, you're in much the same territory as the 24" scale. You've really only shifted it a fret. Does it really matter that much?

I bought a Squier VM Mustang about a month ago. Really like it. Also have the VM Jazzmaster and VM Jaguar. I really like the shorter scale on the Jag and Mustang.

Right after HS graduation in 1965 I bought a new Fender Jazzmaster (my lead guitar player had the Jag) and sold it about ten years later. Regretted that ever since. Was so happy to see Squier come out with these that I bought both the Jazzmaster and Jag within weeks of them hitting the market.

All three are fun guitars to play.

Got a Jag of some kind on my short list, if I can find one light enough - they're deceptively heavy for their size...

I’ve got one of the new MIM Duo Sonics, and love it. I have guitars from 22.5” (1960 Musicmaster) to 25.5”, and have little trouble moving up and down the scale-length ladder. Perhaps one of the reasons the little Fender feels so good to me is that it is the same length as my Emerald X7, which probably gets the most play of all my guitars.

Perhaps it's a combination of fret size and radius as well? I was trying to pull off some Iron Maiden stuff up on the 12th/15th frets and I couldn't feel it.

Don’t know about the Squire incarnations, but the Fender I have has a 9.5” radius and neck shape virtually identical to my 09 MIM tele.

They have a MIM Mustang at a shop near me. I thought it played very nicely.

The one I played was a $149 Squier Bullet.

I bought one of those, too. Although I play electrics very rarely, I really like it. Of course, I have multiple hand/wrist "issues" so shorter scale guitars are mandatory for me, whether classical or acoustic steel-string. But I'm really impressed with the Duo Sonic.

Have not seen the Squier version of the Mustang (did not know there was one), but the Tele and Strat Squiers I have seen have been very nice for the money. But yeah, the MIM I played was in the $400 range.
