Well I pulled the trigger on the Lonestar in the other thread and promptly shot myself in the foot, of the notion I was going to escape this madness with one amp boy was I naive .

So here it is

And in context

Heh All,

Nice amp!

Do you now have all the tones you want? Is one of those supros a tremoverb?

This is the question I want the answer to. How do I get all the tones I want with tube purity or real close to it without having a pile of gear?

I really like the Lonestar Specials!!! Congrats on a great amp! I have been a fan of Mesa EL84 amps for many years. I've had a Mesa .22 Studio Caliber, one DC3, and two DC2s. And as a matter of fact, a DC2 and matching cab is always ready to mic up in my studio (it's on the right in this pic)...

There is only one Supro amp and matching cab, it is the Titan 1x10 combo/w 1X12 cab (the Titan does have Supros tube driven tremolo and reverb, on board).

To answer your question.... I do not know the answer. I suppose much of it depends one's notion of "all the tones they want" and one's definition of "pile of gear"

I have just started to play this new amp, but I will say the Lonestar seems to have a fairly expansive array of tonal possibility.

And all humor aside the only real answer to that question is that there is no answer, or more specifically the answer is going to different for each individual and each individual answer is valid unto itself and for themselves.

On this forum we have some that subscribe to a more minimalist approach to amount of gear and feel if I cannot get it with just my guitar, my hands and amp, I don't want it.
Then we have those that like a vast array of tonal possibility with multi amounts of gear and or multi amounts of pedals or software modeling options. Both perspectives are completely valid .
And we also have the full gamut in-between . I guess I am a "tweener "

I'm looking g for the option you did not mention - a vast array of indistinguishable from the original tonal possibility with minimal gear preferably one amp - oh an I want it cheap :-) . Who makes that? Only modeling when its good enough? Maybe helix or the like is the answer.

Or maybe Vox nutube style tech with effects and switchable nutubes in the same box someday?

Hmmm...

Ha! lets see "cheap" being relative, the only thing I can think of might be the Bias Head Amp from Positive Grid
Only $1299 cheap at twice the price

kev: just out of curiosity, do you have the supro cab with the 12" below and the amp above, or the opposite? did you try them both ways to make your decision? have you tried spreading them out?

also, have you tried the combo of the supro and the mesa with an aby pedal? spread them out and it may be a glorious sound!

play music!

Yes 12 cab below and amp on top. No I have not tried it reversed. I could I suppose , but it looks to me like it is designed for this setup. Because the 12 cab has the grill cloth and I assume the spk mounting surface angled up slightly (if you look closely at the photo ) and the amp face is straight up perpendicular to floor. Which I am guessing is why the amp appears to be a bit taller in the photo, but it actually isn't

I have not tried spreading them out but that's an interesting thought

I have not yet tried the mesa and supro in stereo/or tandem, as I have no stereo FX (yet) and no aby switcher
I have not checked to see if my Boss RC 3 loopstation (which pass stereo to stereo ) will output stereo or dual mono from a single mono input, but I think it is simply a 2 channel straight through .
