Epiphone Elitist 1965 Casino
Does anyone know if the Epiphone Elitist 1965 Casino is still made in Japan. In online stores Epiphone has made a point of showing that the guitar is "100% Inspected and set up in the USA" on the back of the headstock, but there's no info on where it was made. One Epiphone website page says the guitars are made in Japan — I thought that I heard that is no longer the case and they might be now made elsewhere in Asia. I wonder if the Epiphone page I saw might be old.

Elitists are still made in Japan; everything else is China or Indonesia TMK - no Korean Epis for at least a decade...

They are definitely still made in Japan, just check the prices against the other models (there's quite a difference, at least here in the UK). Although I've never owned one, I've played a couple and they are superbly put together.

Were you referring just to Elitist 1965 Casinos? I have a regular 2012 Casino with a sticker that says, "Made in Korea." A serial number search also shows that it was made at the "Unsung Plant, Korea." (This Casino is where my "archtop" search has stopped—for now! I'm pretty happy with it, but who knows???) If anyone is still interested in this thread. I have an Elitist 65 Epiphone Casino. Definitely made in Japan with Gibson P90 pickups and set up done in the USA. Unbelievable quality...I would say perfect as was the set up. Monster pickups and incredible tone. I bought it when the Elitist series first came out. It was $1300 then and was thought of as a poor mans Gibson. I think its better...the guitar build itself is by far better. Japanese guitars are great. The Yamaha classical guitar I have is equally awesome.

Yes, as mentioned, they are built in Japan with USA components and set-up in the US.
I bought one a while back - magnificently made instrument. Full hollow-body. Great sound. |

As I understand things, all Elitists are made in Japan, but regular Epiphone Casinos, once made in Korea (and desirable for that reason), are now made elsewhere (Indonesia? China? not sure).

Swap the chrome Grovers for a set of gold "milk-bottle" reissues...
Ditch the pickguard... Plug into that Vox and dime all the knobs... Repeat after me: "You say you want a revolution..."
