Running neck and neck with that Martin is a Larrivee OM-03R I bought 10 or 12 years ago. This particular Larry is one of those guitars that, for whatever reason, just has soul... I wish it had 10 level trim so it looked as good as it sounds. |

D-28 Marquis, but very closely followed by a 1965 D-18 that I truly loved but no longer have.

I had a period when I was looking for a certain 12-string sound. I bought a used Guild F-412 and thought it was great until I picked up my new Martin Grand J12-40E Special. I then went searching for a 6 string to compliment the Grand but not match it tonally, I didn`t want a 6-string that just sounded like the Grand with 6 strings taken off! So I ruled out Rosewood. I found exactly what I wanted in the Martin JDP2, Diane Ponzio signature. Alpine Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides, J body, slot-head, Waverly tuners, forward shifted scalloped bracing and a large sound-hole. Acoustically brilliant, nice to look at and beautiful to play. It just does everything.

Far and away my Pawless Mesquite Special. Still new enough to need some adjusting and not nearly played in, but tone and sustain are as good as or better than anything I remember playing in 50 years. Close second would be my F-512, although I prefer playing my old F-212 for a 12-string. I've had it so long it fits my hands and style without me having to think.

Depends on my mood, can't choose. It's either my D-28 or my 000-28.
Suspect marginally, it'd have to be the D-28 my first Martin.

The two best guitars I have ever owned were the Martin M21 Steve Earle and the J45 TV from Gibson. But the J50 I still have keeps growing on me so my opinion may change! What did CSN say? Love the one you're with...

So many high dollar guitars...
For me, this question is easy to answer. My sig, my one and only LTD '11 414ce . Much like the 814 someone else posted about, this guitar does pretty much anything I demand of it.

Martin HD-28V is my best sounding 6-string acoustics.
Martin D12-20 is my best sounding 12-string. Gibson CS-336 is my best sounding electric. |

In 35+ years and owning MANY very fine acoustic guitars, the best sounding guitar I've owned was a '72 Gurian JR (jumbo rosewood). Stupidly, I sold it and have been looking for one ever since. But it's the proverbial needle in a haystack.
