Default How is this remotely possible?

Just saw this browsing Craigslist. Don't worry. I'd never buy a used guitar without seeing it and playing it first. And I was taught very well by my father that "you get what you pay for," and "nothing is free." That said, how can anyone sell a Martin D-45 for this price? What is the gimmick?

Betting it’s a knock off.

Obviously fake.

Backstrip is wrong. Screw in end pin is wrong.

Ummmm, because that's not even remotely a real Martin. #fakenews

It's not real, not even a good copy, that's how.

They don't. It's a Chinese knock-off site. Read: COUNTERFEIT. Not a Martin.

Probably made of cork and balsa.....LOL. I used to have a set of Calloway golf clubs that where knock offs. They really weren't that bad for a novice like me.

Imagine the setup on that thing.

I know almost nothing of fake guitars but I am sincerely curious. Are such guitars actually playable? Are the necks straight to a reasonable degree? Are the tuners fake too? Is it just a big warped piece of junk with stick-on appointments? It doesn't look all that bad for $150 clams! I mean, there must have been SOME degree of skill to even attempt such a crime!

If I wasn't so against supporting these counterfeit operations, I would order one to relic/thrash. However the necks may be so twisted that they are completely unplayable.

As ted said, not even a good copy. The abalone looks odd, on the fretboard, and a few other things too!

There's videos on Youtube that actually review these things. They definately make sound but I sure wouldn't want one.

Basically, if one wants a beginner guitar but with Martin label, this may be the key.
I watched few youtube videos and a lot of players say these sound pretty good for a guitar under 200 bucks.
