I've driven every kind of rig that's ever been made...
I've Driven the backroads so I wouldn't get weighed."

I'm in the UK, and we think that songs about our towns ,cities etc., sound incredibly silly, but we will happily sing songs about or including American place names with which we have no connection with no embarrassment at all.

I share this "complex" as I sing many West Texas singer-songwriters material, and bluegrass.

Eight more miles to Lousisville ? - fine

Eight more miles to Piddletrenthide (a real place) - ridiculous.

I'm Goin' to Jackson - fine (if cliched)

I'm Goin' to Bognor - no way !

Moonlight in Vermont - delightful

Moonlight in Sheffield - nah!

Why is this I wonder ? especially as many American places are named after British towns, cities and counties anyway.

BTW - the Del McCoury version of Richard Thompson's Vincent Black Lightening has the line ......
"And he pulled her on behind - And down to Knoxville, they did ride"

Wrong - it is "And he pulled her on behind - And down to BOX HILL, they did ride"

Box Hill is a famous peak of the North Downs in Surrey - south west of London. It is a tourist beauty spot, but has long been the late night haunt of young motorcyclists.

There is "On Ilkely Moor ba' 'tat" (On Ilkely Moor without a hat) - an old folk song see : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RtrdqTKBNA

NOTE - THIS IS NOT ME!

Just thought of a few more.

Led Zeppelin, Kashmir and Bron-yr-aur
Arlo Guthrie, City of New Orleans (technically a rail line, but the geography is strong throughout)

The first one that came to mind: "Wichita" by Tim and Mollie O'Brien.
