Default Bigfoot—a.k.a. Sasquatch—Do you believe it exists?

I'm pretty skeptical, but then again, there's a lot of forest out there. If there are only a few hundred of these creatures and they have some intelligence, they could easily hide themselves. Your thoughts?

Les Stroud is a champion of the wilderness and there is no reason for him to lie about much, and he believes that he was stalked by a great ape, Twice.

Actually I was just watching Les Stroud last night and that was what sparked this thread. I have always admired him, and if he says there's something out there, there just might be.

I really don't know, but I have heard an interview with Jane Goodall where she said she was convinced there is some large primate out there that we have not discovered yet. She based this opinion on conversations with people who claim to have had encounters. Apparently, given her experiences with large primates, these first hand accounts somehow made a lot of sense to her.

This certainly is intriguing. It's hard to have confidence in the idea though without at least a bit of more tangible evidence.

If there is in fact a thus far undiscovered species out there living at low densities, it seems entirely feasible that we may never know for certain. Wholesale habitat destruction (which surely will be encroaching ever further into remote regions) and possible habitat change due to climate change will probably reduce population numbers of our hypothetical large primate even further, and will increasingly isolate different groups, thus resulting in more inbreeding and a loss of genetic diversity. So, if there is something out there, I can easily imagine it going extinct before we have a chance to definitively demonstrate its existence.

Yep, I do.

My great grandmother reported seeing one in Pennsylvania when she was a kid.

In college I took a super popular class called Great Mysteries of The World. It was a very scientific analysis of the possibilities of several such things.

For example, there was good scientific data and principles suggesting that Sea Serpents do exist and that they were actually Giant Squid. A undeveloped Giant Squid baby washed up on a shore and it was three feet long, which extrapolated to such a size.

A giant squid could see the hull of a boat and latch on thinking it was a whale or Orca, which they preyed upon.

Interestingly, decades later they proved these giant squid existed. Them years later, they discovered an even LARGER "gargantuan squid".

So, that's an example where a creature of legend was possible even though never caught.

We also "disproved" several thing.

One of the things that the class was firmly uncertain about was Bigfoot.

I believe it is totally possible for it to exist and not be found yet. I don't know if one actually DOES exist, but I firmly believe its POSSIBLE to exist undetected.

I'd actually believe in life on other planets before I believed in bigfoot. I just think that there would be something captured on video by now.

"Settled"

I still hold out hope that we'll find one, though.
