Default NHL Playoffs - Round 1

Let the playoff beards begin. The regular season ended yesterday and the NHL's Second season begins on Wednesday. Here are the match ups, best of 7 series:

East
Boston vs Detroit
Tampa vs Montreal
Pittsburgh vs Columbus
New York Rangers vs Philadelphia

West
Colorado vs Minnesota
St. Louis vs Chicago
Anaheim vs Dallas
San Jose vs LA

Thoughts? Predictions? Upsets?

Always liked Philadelphia. But torn between St. Louis and Chicago.

Columbus vs Minnesota in the SCF.

Seriously, I think Boston's series against Detroit will determine if they come out of the Eastern Conference. I believe The Redwings are their toughest matchup, and if they get past them they'll make it to The Finals.

I don't follow the West very closely but I know there are a lot of very good, well balanced teams that are going to be eliminated before one of them survives the gauntlet and makes their way to The Finals.

Looking forward to the playoffs and hoping that my Penguins get lucky, but
I'm not holding my breath this year.

Tampa is a legit team! Hawks and Blues will be a great show! Bruins and Wings will be high scoring .............

Rooting for the Bruins and Pens in the first round. Really looking forward to see Crosby play.

I'm going to the B's game Friday night with a few buddies. Should be a good series. Been playing hockey myself for over 40 years, so it is by far my favorite sport to watch and participate in. A Boston-Pitt rematch would make for good story lines. Go B's!

I make no predictions because I tend to bet with my heart, not my head (that's why I almost never bet on sports)...but I'm rooting for the Defending Champion Chicago Blackhawks. The St. Louis series should be a good test--the Blues are tough.

As a Pens fan I would not enjoy another tragedy, no matter how good the story lines. I DO NOT want to see a Boston-Pittsburgh rematch!

Have fun! I had Bruins season tickets but it was during the '04-'05 lockout year. The year before that I went to all the playoff games (which was just 1 series). That was when Boston was ahead 3 games to 1 over Montreal and then lost 3 straight, including game 7 at the Fleet center.

I too am a Blue Jackets fan. I was living in Columbus when the Blue Jackets started and I went to a few games. Unfortunately, they're playing the Pens so I'll be rooting for the Penguins.

Get ready, the puck is about to drop for the Detroit Boston series. First time they have met in the playoffs since 1957 (wow).

I enjoy watching Rene Rancourt do the national anthem. He's so animated.
