He’s just that fine a feller. So I’d start thinking in multiples—certainly not just “one more”.

Hey Steve! Since this will be the 7th John has built for me, I am in the gravy!!! Haha

Count ‘em.
This one coming. I still have three. See my signature below
Sold two of our first JK customs to fine AGF folks so we could keep building. They were real happy last I heard!
One more was seriously damaged in shipment and has yet to be completely repaired but John let me off the hook on that one.

Not even counting Agent 99, my first (used) JK, which I have owned three times! Sheesh…. If it came around FS again I might own it again. It is that good. I think mike/woody may have owned it twice as well. Yow

And they do continue getting better and better as we continue to refine our Pablo Package of ergonomic and tonal features!!!

Thank you all for being such awesome enablers!!!

This is just TOO MUCH FUN

PAUL

Sounds like you’re having a great time. You’re as bad as me with Circas!

The Bubinga looks to be a very fine choice. I also like #8. Very similar but just a tad lighter coloring. Not sure what wood it is. But I really like it.
The worm wood one would be very unique, and should be killer looking under finish.

First set is Padouk. John says he will need to sand and sniff to determine exactly what the others are. The old smell test!

Of course these are the proverbial tip of John’s wood locker iceberg

More soon, I expect

Paul
Based on the writing on that padouk set, that is an RC Tonewoods acquisition, Pete's handwriting and numbering system, so I most likely sliced that up from a board or billet when I was doing the cutting for them, so Iwould have liked to see you go for that one. Honestly though that is one nice set of bubinga also. Going to be another great guitar.

Smile Thanks All

I appreciate you all chiming in! Party time in John’s shop….

TomB thanks very much for the link. Now I know why John suggested the
tunnel 14 top! So glad to be getting one a bit like yours!!!

And thank you Bill K for the info. Once I saw that Bubinga I was hooked. Interesting that I actually prefer it less the sapwood, as pretty as that is.

Play on folks and do have FUN

Paul

What? You went with the Bubinga? I thought you’d pick that beautiful Padouk. I have been hearing great things about Padouk from other luthiers, was curious to hear your experience. But I bet the Bubinga will be amazing too. And congratulations anyway! Is this your first redwood guitar?

Number 8 is sapele with some figure. It would essentially make a mahogany like guitar, which can be very nice and quite pretty

Smile Redwood top

Hey Jamie. I have my R.Taylor custom 12 fret cutaway from 2010.
Sinker Redwood over flamed Claro walnut.
Not too loud, but it sounds very warm and sweet. The RT is a style two, so Taylor grand concert size.
About the same as a Martin 000 at 15” across the Lower Bout

These guitars John and I have been cooking up are much larger!!! And AMAZINGLY even more comfortable to hold and play due to the many ergonomic features. Especially the wedge shape of the body.

The Round Peak shape is 16.25” across the LB. Think of cross between a Gibby Advanced Jumbo, and a Taylor Grand Symphony. Of course with John’s own shape.

John assures me this Tunnel 14 top will get as LOUD as anything while still sounding sweet and warm at lullaby volume

John also made me a couple of “Mitchells” which are even BIGGER. They are sized a bit like a Taylor Grand Orchestra. 16 7/8” across the LB. Almost as big across the LB as a Gibson true Jumbo (J200)but even a bit deeper with a bit wider waist, so even more Cubic Inches.

So if You, too want the comfort of a much smaller guitar with the SOUND of a BIG GUN, you might want to rattle John’s cage about one of these! Highly recommended for sure!!!

Since I still have two of the Giant Mitchells I am going for another Round Peak.

TMI? My specialty…. Hahaha

Off to whack the Maple Monster….

Cheers

Paul

Smile Specs.

John Kinnaird build 2023

Tunnel 14 redwood top with mineral “flames”

Highly figured Bubinga back and sides.

JK Round Peak/Taylor grand symphony/Gibson advanced jumbo size
like my maple monster, which is more comfy than my OM/grand concert 12 fret cut R.Taylor custom!
Even with a 1.25” wider Lower Bout!

Full Pablo package, CF rods and D tube in the neck and CF struts from neck block to waist to allow the top to sing too.

Short scale. 25” Short scale is unbelievably helpful For my left hand.

Neck 1.8” at nut.

2.25” string spacing at the saddle

Johns innovation, Adjusting neck mechanism works from inside the body.

Laminate bolt receiver block for the sliding neck

Same kind of SLIM mod V slightly asymmetrical neck carve. More on this eventually…

Elevated fretboard extension with plenty of space underneath. Think archtop architecture

A bit more swoop, and three or four shortened Frets at the end of the fretboard

Smaller 60° angle back bevel. (thickens at the waist). Maybe 1/2” or so to 3/4”

Similar Arm bevel

Rounded cutaway, as usual, with a wee bit of bevel on the cut please.
This means double sides, as we discussed. Maybe SC or ??? for the inner layer.

3/4 inch Manzer type body wedge, at least. So a bit more than we’ve done before.

Slightly simplified ornamentation

rectangular side markers extend into the FB binding like usual for me.

FB diamonds at frets 3, 5, 7x2, 9, 12x2, 15, 17 as usual

Binding simple black ebony or maybe cocobolo, your call as you see it up close and personal.

Top Purfling of your yard maple which I LOVE

Simple Martin style Belly Bridge. But sand down the edges and corners for more comfort

Symmetrical paddle headstock with Gotoh Mini 510 tuners

We can use the white Hiscox Artist case I sent you way back when

More soon no doubt…. Haha

Paul

Bevels

More bevels

So this new one will have a slightly thinner back bevel, about the same length.

Floating fretboard extension. This pic also shows some of the sliding adjustable neck at the end of the neck block.
