Yes, seriously. It's also used for some other CSNY songs. |

I like the way open chords sound in alternate tunings. And learning to finger actual phrases therein is like learning an intriguing new language. Very tasty!
Thanks for putting this one up here to explore. |

Another very nice ‘live’ version by Foxes and Fossils below - impressive for me in that the girls were probably only around 16 years old at the time…

There's really not much going on as far as the guitar part is concerned, and there never was, which is often the genius of a given musical piece. In any case........you'll have it down by the end of the day, I promise! Best, Howard Emerson

Here are the two videos for those who live outside the US and have to fight through ads and pictures of fire hydrants when following YouTube links posted on AGF by our American friends!!!! Please EMBED when posting YouTube links - Please, please, please!!!! Wonderful vocal harmonies on both. Loved the bit stolen from George Harrison. But absolutely crap live sound on the guitars in both.

Best, Howard Emerson[/QUOTE] Thanks Howard..... I spent way too many years developing bad habits playing in Standard Tuning. I've come to realize that the songs that I fantisized about playing as teenager were really very easy if I had only known about Alternate Tunings.......Oh well.... Old Dog New Tricks.

To recreate that exact sound, you'll also need to soak your guitar strings in BBQ sauce - not sure what brand.
I don't think you need to soak the entire guitar - although that would work too. Wiki: Stills experimented with the guitar itself, including soaking strings in barbecue sauce[52] or flipping pickups to mimic Hendrix playing a right-handed guitar left-handed. He is also known for using alternate guitar tunings, particularly when performing acoustically. Often a long acoustic solo section of the show would showcase agile fingerstyle playing in standard and altered tunings. His primary alternate tuning is usually D A D F♯ A D, or "Palmer modal tuning which is 'E E E E B E' ", which can be heard in "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "Carry On," and "4 + 20."[53]
