I own a 1980 Applause 6 string. It was my only guitar for over 15 years. It was the series with the all aluminum fret board and frets in one. I never really knew how bad it was til I bought my Martin HD28.
Still, I keep it. Never play it, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Applause. m |

The best inexpensive 12 I ever saw was made by Art & Lutherie, the company associated with Godin and Seagull in Canada. It was an acoustic dreadnaught body with extremely simply appointments, but in your hands, it played as easily as a 6 string and sounded really nice. The owner told me it was about a $xxx guitar.

I will still stick with my original thoughts I mentioned about a Takamine. They are great sounding and playing 12 strings that stay in tune.
Maybe it's me but a 12 string seems to be more fussy to me than a 6 string and I wouldn't skimp on a cheaper 12 vs finding a cheaper 6 string..but that's just me. |

Seagull makes the low priced 12-string that I like best, though I think it's above your limit. Perhaps you can find a good used one. Since you can't find one in your area, perhaps there's a dealer outside your area who will give you a day or two to decide if you cover the shipping. In my opinion, it's a pretty safe bet you'll like it.
I haven't played an Applesause 12-string in a good while, and that's no accident. When I go into a guitar shop, my time is both limited and valuable. I gots other fish to fry! cotten Then again, I've seen a used Taylor 355 at a very attractive price on occasion, and I think it's just about the best bang for the buck in 12er anywhere. |

I got to play a Takamine at a music store night before last, it was the only 12 they had in the place, I really liked it, Can't recall the model number but it was fairly inexpensive, if I can find it used it'll probably be within my price range.

Seagull 12's are great!
I've never played an Applause 12, but I DO have an Applause 6 that I love! I've wrote just about all my songs on it for the past 7 years, and have never had a problem. It sounds nice and big! I guess the general consensus is people either love 'em or hate 'em. |

Joel, as mentioned elsewhere in this wonderful forum, you might want to check out Washburns before buying. Excellent value for the price. Also, Rogue makes a good sounding guitar that's well built for not much bucks.
For what it's worth, I had an Applause in the 80's. Never could figure out that aluminum neck (the frets were actually stamped out of the neck). It sounded lousy, but it was great for camping trips. Indestructable. |

Does it have to be an accoustic? If not, a bandmate of mine has a Fender Strat 12-string that he got on closeout for a song. It's just about as easy to play as a regular strat, you can even play leads on it if you like. Has a good sound plugged in. Something you might consider if you're in a band. |

I've owned a 12-string Seagull and a 12 string Takamine F400. The Seagul was good, but I'd take the Takamine over the Seagull. I owned them at the same time.
This might be a good deal on one - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW
