Advice for slide guitar newbie?

My preference is for the Dunlop #228, heavy chromed brass slide. Glass and ceramic are too bulky for my liking, and I like a bit of 'grit' in my tone which a too smooth material won't do. A bit of wear in the chrome 'grips' the string, imparts more energy, excites harmonics, improves sustain on vibrato. Love it.
