Can coozie, cut to fit the neck. It works. Price was right (free).

The vintage stuff is excellent - you can find bags of old rice on ebay for a decent price if you look hard enough - but a lot of the modern rice is imported and the quality just isn't there. Inconsistent grain size, etc.

I normally use the 2-sided Dunlop, and it works just fine. And I have one of the folding Planet Waves ones in my guitar case (a little unsteady for my taste for constant use).

But I really like the look of that leather gun rest, and I think it might be both more stable than the Dunlop and slightly safer for the finish. How heavy is it?

It's filled with sand, so (without weighing it) I'd say around 2 lbs. It's plenty stable.

I've used my lap for over 20 yrs w/ no issues but recently got the Music Nomad cube/mat since I had an Amazon gift card. The cube is nice and stable and has different facets, including a flat one. You can store your tools in it in between string changes too.

I use this. It's adjustable:

The Hercules Stand Co. makes one that I own. It's very nice, as all their products are.

I took a chunk of wood 9 inches long 6 inches deep and 3 inches across, cut a big V shaped notch in it and lined that with some cloth and chamois leather. So the neck actually sits in a cradle. It's very stable and utterly 'reliable'.

Works a treat. I found the little black plastic tripod was great when I wasn't moving the guitar around, but it fell over incessantly when I was.

I change strings on my kitchen island with a blanket covering the hard surface. Then I place a "just right" size heavy duty shoebox where I want to support the neck and cover it with a lambs wool motorcycle seat pad. It works great. Looks sorta weird, but it works and it's free.
