where do you change guitar strings?
On your lap?
On a workbench? Some other location? For years I just have been changing strings on my lap. Maybe there's a better way. |

Usually on the island in the kitchen. It's the right height and has good lighting. Plus when the strings are off I can use the sound hole to hold my beverage.

I have an altar that my wife found at an antique auction, several years ago. She was going to use it for wrapping packages but decided it was too big and let me have it. I think it came out of an old Greek church.

I have the coolest place to work on my guitars.
When I was an undergrad, I turned my bedroom into a dorm-room arrangement and it was awesome. The centerpiece of my home dorm room was an antique oak Hamilton drafting table where I spent all my time - it was my drafting table, engineering workbench and study desk, not to mention a darn nice piece of furniture. This is in our basement now and I made this into my guitar workbench. It's an awesome work surface and really nice to still be enjoying this important piece of my home.

It depends on where I am when the strings need changing. I've changed them in backstage Green Rooms when needed. But usually I do it either at the kitchen table or on the sofa if I decide to watch a movie while I'm at it.
Mandolin-restringing is a long, tedious process wherever you choose to do it, so I often watch movies when I restring my mandolins. whm |

I'd add that my Dobro is only a smidgen less of a PITA than my mandolins. |

Your's is a bit older than mine, but the one piece of furniture I plan to take with me when I retire is my drafting table.

Normally on my workbench, unless it is an unplanned change --- then anywhere.
