Has anyone mentioned Donna Herula? She's an exceptional acoustic blues and slide player from Chicago, and has a great bluesy voice.

Glad someone else mentioned Aoife.

Most of my favourites are here: especially fond of Janis Ian and Brooke Miller, so I will only add some ladies more known as singer-songwriters but who play guitar:

Bridget St. John (fantastic player well worth seeing if you can see her on a rare appearance), Julie Felix (have seen her a couple of times and plan to again later this year), Buffy Sainte Marie, Sheila and Amanda from Dala (the female Simon & Garfunkel), Sally Barker (discovered her 25 years ago, long before 'The Voice'), Dar Wiliams, Kate Gaffney, Joan Armatrading and of course, the late, great Sandy Denny. And seeing someone mentioned Samantha Fish, hailing from the UK is Joanne Shaw Taylor - Janis Joplin, SRV and Gary Moore all rolled into one.

That's no ordinary wood shop, Josh. As Ed pointed out (post 47 in this thread) that's Michael Greenfield's wood shop! Greenfield is one of THE premier luthiers in the world...check out the Artists page(s) on the Greenfield Guitars website (and the other artists on his Youtube channel). I'm sure you'll recognize a few of them. This video was taken the day that Brooke picked up a new guitar.

Ed: don't recognize the mic...contact Michael, I'm sure he'll be happy to tell you about the setup he uses.

Thanks Phil. The instrument mic he uses for the recordings is a Neumann KM 184. He lists it in the descriptions of several of his YouTube demo videos.

My father was a big Les Paul/Mary Ford fan - as you said, not many people realized that she was a formidable guitarist in her own right - and I kinda like to think that Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi are arguably the latter-day heirs to the legacy...

Some Les-&-Mary trivia: after their divorce in 1963 (I was fortunate enough to see their last TV appearance as a kid, in 1962) Mary Ford was attempting to jumpstart both a solo career and an endorsement deal with Gretsch. It has been rumored that the short-lived (and now uber-rare) "Princess" pastel-colored solidbodies based on the '63 Corvette platform (vaguely resembling the contemporary - and strong-selling - single-pickup SG/Les Paul Junior, and sold with matching white case and amplifier) were in fact intended to be the first "Mary Ford" instruments, to be joined by similarly-colored Duo-Jet-based "Standards" and a double-cutaway White Penguin-based "Custom" model; production of the Princess ceased by '64 when the deal fell through - no instruments were ever produced under the Mary Ford designation, and Mary's own double-cut Penguin is believed to be the only one in existence. For those who are curious about what might have been, there's a Limited Edition FSR Electromatic in Surf Green with white back/pickguard/trussrod cover and outfitted with gold Filter'trons/hardware:

Could've been a success as a Mary Ford Standard IMO...

When I think of terrific guitar players, male or female, Bonnie Raitt always come to my mind.

I won't repeat any of the excellent artists mentioned thus far, but would like to add Tracy Chapman...

I love many of the women who have been mentioned, but lately I've been listening to Shawn Colvin, especially her cover of American Tune. And I've been appreciating Gillian Welch a lot.

For a taste of something different, does anyone know Anna Calvi? She doesn't do anything complex on her guitar but she uses it so dramatically, I quite love her!
