Gibson SJ - 1943 Original Vintage
This beauty is a rare find and in pristine condition. It has a mahogany back and sides, poplar neck and heel blocks, multi-laminated bindings and a fine piece of spruce as the top wood. Neck has a two-piece maple neck with a center lamination, Brazilian rosewood fretboard, laminated plastic heel cap, original parallelogram inlays and original frets as well. Due to the wartime restrictions during WWII, metal was in short supply and this instrument was built without an adjustable steel rod and instead fitted with a wooden wedge-shaped reinforcement. The neck is a large profile neck, and has kept its trueness very well. Original bottom Belly Bridge with pearl dots, and striped celluloid pickguard. Guitar is a tobacco sunburst finish that is original with light checking and some minor playing wear at the treble side of the top along the fretboard. Has the Gibson script logo and features the banner logo, “Only a Gibson is good enough”. The guitar retains its original 6-in-line Kluson open back tuners, and has a hard to find original hard shell case in great condition.
The guitar has had recent professional repairs listed below; Center seam re-glued at bridge to butt end of guitar Back center seam re-glued as well Neck reset New bridge pins (pin replacement looks like original) This guitar is all original with exception of bridge pins and strings. $12,000 plus S&H Appraisal paperwork will be shipped with instrument to keep for your records. Please note the guitar and case have been professionally appraised. Payment Terms are Cash In Advance: • If paying by a check, an Invoice will be sent to you, once payment is received and cleared the instrument will ship. • All major credit cards are accepted and a convenience fee of 3.5% will be added. I'm fortunate enough to have seen this guitar, and it is in simply incredible condition! I haven't seen as many Banners as some folks have, but I've seen enough of them, and this is the finest example I've ever seen. The repairs were masterfully done by luthier/guitar tech Jake Tuel (Burning River Guitars), who is one of the finest vintage repair/restore guys in the business...people from all over the country send their guitars to him, including some well-respected vintage shops. If my pockets were deeper, this would be mine. But they're not , so GLWS!
