Recording is not the greatest quality, but that's not surprising when using the iPad build in mic. If you want to pursue a better sound without using big amounts of dough, I can highly recommend the Alesis IO Dock. It's a docking station for the iPad, that allows up to two microphones or instruments at a time, with semi professional sounding results. It's not that expensive. Of course, you'll need software to go with that, and there's great recording software like Auria Pro (which I use), but for your needs, at least in the beginning, free software like GarageBand for the iPad should yield some great results and improvements in your sound. If curious, check out the link in my signature to hear the music I've recorded with my friend. It's all done on the iPad, using Alesis IO Dock.
