Default What do you drive?

Haven't done this in a while but it is fun...

What do you drive? Car, truck, motorcycle, whatever?

I drive a 2014 Toyota Camry Hybrid:

My wife's car is a 2008 Lexus RX350:

And these days, in my old age, I ride a 2011 Can Am Spyder RT-AC:

What about you?

- 2006 Nissan Murano SE
- 1968 Dodge Polara 500 (summer cruiser)
- 2003 Toyota Camry Solara SLE-V6 Convertible. We just bought this car in December in Florida to leave at our winter home. It only has 31,500 miles and barely has a mark on it.

2000 Ford Focus, blue, manual transmission. First car I actually bought for myself (freshman year of college) and I've driven it ever since. You can't kill that thing, but it's starting to have issues so I'm looking for a replacement. I just haven't found a manual transmission vehicle I like yet (a must for me; I get bored driving an auto).

2000 Chrysler Intrepid, was a gift.
So far, no problems, a remarkably efficient and reliable car.

A lot of times I drive my kids and wife crazy.

This is a guitar forum - right? Other times I drive a Princeton Reverb or Mesa Boogie.

2014 Subaru Outback 2.4L Premium, PZEV. Used to drive a 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid, which my husband appropriated when his 2005 Ford Five Hundred bit the dust and we bought the Subaru last spring. Idea was that he’d get the Outback during heavy snow, but it hasn’t snowed hard enough yet for AWD to make much of a difference. (Knock wood, kinahurra, scutta mal’occhio--insert ethnic superstitious expression of choice).

Meanwhile, he has made it a serious pursuit to see just how high he can push the average gas mileage--both the numbers and the number of little green leaves on the dashboard eco-gauge. (My high was 37.9, low 33.8; his high 45.9 and his low was 36.6--he drives much slower and refuses to keep the tank more than a third full because it would weigh too much). My low was due to last year’s brutally cold winter; his was at the depths of a subzero snap in early Jan. I keep offering to show him how to drive the Outback (he’s never used a keyless ignition before) but he’s demurring until it becomes too painful for him to sit in a small sedan. Meanwhile, he says that if it snows too hard he’ll call an Uber.

It's our first Subaru, and makes me embarrassed to think we wasted money on higher end cars in the past. My mother in law has a 2012. Hers has nicer looking grille than mine but prefer the stiffer ride and better fog lights you get with rev b.

These cars get up our ski club service road when many AWD and 4x4 won't. It's not hype when they boast about their traction.

I drive a 1991 Ford F-150, usually towing my homemade camper in the summer for traveling the Black Hills.

Mine has EyeSight too, though the 2014 version does have its flaws: no blind spot monitoring, no audible cross-traffic warning when in reverse. Our 2011 Fusion Hybrid has both. And Eye Sight gets disabled in both heavy rain and blinding sun (such as when headed into a sunset, which is unavoidable with all my travels heading southwest).

Last fall when the car was still pretty new to me, I went downstate to my engineer’s studio/home/guesthouse on his farm. No streetlights that far out of town, and the only exterior lights were at the bottom of the hollow by the buildings. I’d parked uphill a bit, expecting to haul my stuff down on foot, but he & his wife told me it was okay to park in front of the house. Tried going uphill to the top of the circular drive, but even with my brights it was too dark to see the path. So I decided to back my way down--hey, I had that backup camera. But I hadn’t realized that the view from the lighted camera--as opposed to the rearview mirror in daylight--was “WYSIWYG," not wide-angle. So I had a nice clear view, judging from the camera--and then CRUNCH! The camera didn’t pick up that walnut tree on my passenger side--which not only folded my side-view mirror back, but cracked the mirror and took off a chunk of its housing. (Had I known I could fold that mirror back, I might have done so and avoided losing it). Spent a couple of months driving around with a duct-taped mirror with a dime-store fisheye stuck on it. Cross-traffic warning of the type on the Fusion would have alerted me with a beep.

However, the lack of blind spot monitors isn’t so crucial because the side mirrors are fairly large and can be adjusted so there isn’t really a blind spot. Nonetheless, the monitoring system--and cross-traffic backup alert--are both offered for 2015. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to retrofit at any price. (I asked).

I drive a 2003 Jeep Wrangler. My wife drives a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
When my kids still lived at home, they each drove a Jeep Cherokee.

Yeah, when the garage door was open it looked like a Jeep dealership!

Best,
PJ (PhotoJeep)
