Was just thinking of you, the other day, Russ, when I found out a very good friend of mine had moved back to Hawaii, land of the Koa...

Wishing you the best!!

Default Koaguitarman found a match! (Stem Cell )

Many prayers Russ. I was at your place many moons ago when you hosted an AGF jam and when I was known as Taylorgyrl. I got to see that gorgeous koa collection up close. When you get better we need to have another gathering!

Russ,
As I was reading I the OP I remembered the old forum and that photo in Acoustic Guitar magazine. I'm shocked it was 2005!

You have a huge family here that will be thinking and praying for you. You are an inspiration to all of us and especially the Koa heads.

Aloha and Merry Christmas.

Default Update from Twyla (Koalady )

2 days to transplant

By Twyla Baur Lewark — Dec 22
The drugs are taking their toil. Today was a day for sleeping and warm blankets. For little movement and requests for Ativan to help with the nausea and TYLENOL for the nagging headache. Russ is feeling the effects of the drugs now.

He ate a little bit of breakfast, just enough to take the morning medications. Then another blood test and vitals every 4 hours. His blood pressure is rising each check and they are watching this closely. His potassium and magnesium levels dropped and he needed to have a small bag of each added to the IV drips. His White blood count is at 0.5, hemoglobin 8.0 and platelets are at 90. He is right where he should be at this point for the Transplant. Russ is extremely susceptible to infection now.

Today Mom and Dad came by to visit and add to Russ' Card Wall. He really enjoys seeing his cards from his bed all day. There visit was good timing. Russ was able to sit up for a little bit and move from his single position.

We have just been informed Russ' Donor cells will arrive tomorrow night so they will be ready for Wednesday Transplant. They told us that when they are given a time of arrival like that it almost always means they are coming from Europe. We are slowly piece by piece learning about our 22 year old young man with a huge heart and that amazing gift he is giving Russ.

Russ ate some chicken noodle soup and had a little bit of decaf tea for dinner then his Nurse gave him more meds and he was back in bed and sound asleep. I think he is out for the night.

This is a short update today but it was mostly sleeping today.

Tomorrow is his day of rest before his transplant. Tomorrow will be our day.

The Picture today is Russ and his Dr. from a couple days ago. We have an "Honor the 'Stache' Jar" to choose your stache for a photo op with Russ.

Good Night everyone and Thank You for all your support and keeping Russ in your thoughts and Prayers.

Dennis, thanks for sharing. I didn't realize Russ needed a transplant. We'll pray for an uneventful procedure.

Prayers on the way for Russ. I was wondering why I hadn't seen him on the forum since I came back on.
