Strange Sound on my Epi ES335 Pro
I just bought a Epi ES335 Pro. Sweet guitar, and everything worked perfectly on it ... until I dropped it from about 3 ft high onto the carpet (long, unfortunate story). Luckily, there was no damage at all that I could see. However, now when I hit certain strings (mainly the G note on the low E string), there is a faint, weird feedback-like sound that resembles a sitar. Anyone have an idea what could have happened and how I could fix without taking to the shop?
Thanks!

Pretty hard to diagnose with the information you have given. Could have jarred a fret or two loose. Could have jarred some other hardware loose. I would check to see if you have any high frets. Use a straight edge that can span three frets at a time and see if you get any rocking motion across any of them. A credit card can work in a pinch. Double check all hardware for any damage or looseness.

I assume you're hearing it acoustically, not amplified. That correct?
As already mentioned check all hardware tightness. There is a lot of hardware on these guitars. :-) I have a Casino and the pickup selector switch sometimes rattles pretty loud in the middle position. (I have also had to loosen the P-90 covers a bit due to buzzes, but you have different pick ups, of course.) I have read that the little springy wire around the intonation screws on the bridge can sometimes rattle. The cord jack nut is also well known to fall off sometimes (clear nail polish "thread locker" is usually recommended). All bets are off if the noise is coming through the amp. Happy hunting. |
