RIP Mike Taylor. John Denver's 1st lead guitarist.
Mike Taylor, co-writer of Rocky Mountain High, Sunshine on My Shoulders, Eagle and the Hawk and Season Suite passed away yesterday. His guitar licks are heard on many John Denver albums from the 70s.
Mike was the one that created the opening guitar lick on Rocky Mountain High. A picture of Mike in the 70s (from the Rocky Mountain High album) Mike Taylor, John Denver's first lead guitarist playing "Late Winter Early Spring" (he created the great lead work on that song) with Pete Huttlinger John Denver's final lead guitarist.

Wow. I'm listening to Rocky Mtn High at the same moment I clicked onto this. Now that's beyond weird.

Thanks for the link. Mike was a friend of mine on Hilton Head Island. As extraordinary as he was as a guitarist and song writer, he was more so in his dedication to history and the preservation of a way of life few appreciated.
On the island, we shared music and stories. He was a great muscian and friend. |

Sorry to hear about the death of Mike.
I loved his guitar work and spent many nights listening to him playing Late Winter Early Spring with John Denver. My thoughts go out to his family.
