Cards in the spokes was my first physics experiment. My Dad tried to tell me that it would loosen the spokes and ruin the wheel. I left them on, way after I even thought it was cool, just to see if his postulation carried any validity. It did not, althought the cards didn't fare too well, and I even broke a clothespin. No spokes were harmed in the process, and my Dad disavowed any knowledge of said statement. I think he just wanted me not to be so noisy...

These kinda things are so age-dependent .....
I haven't got any grandchildren, but I do have two adult sons. I also sometimes ride a bicycle. If I were to do the ol' cards in the spokes trick,,, my sons would definitely think that was uncool. As it is, they do think I'm cool, , , , because I am just so darned cool.
