Considering a 65’ DRRI
Anyone care to weigh in on this amp? Considering moving on from my
HRDLX IV.

It is considered to be one of the best amp reissues ever. I have one.

What Bob said 100%, but I'd also test-drive both ToneMaster versions (which come in at half the weight of the tube version and offer some options better-suited to modern practice/performance/recording situations) and see which works best for you...

The fact that the 65 DRRI has been in continuous production for 25 years is a testament to its worthiness. That and the fact that it’s probably the most popular back line amp of all time. Unless you’re chasing a distinctly different sound you’ll be hard pressed to find a better all rounder.

I've had one in the past and also currently have a 1972 DR. When I a/b's them many years ago they were in the same ballpark.
Personally I far prefer a Princeton Reverb with a 12" speaker. Plenty loud enough for most bar gigs and a much sweeter tone to my ears.

Folks like 'em. You probably will, too.
I'd look for a recent used one just so resale down the road won't be painful. |

I've had one since the late '90s. I've never felt the need for anything else except for a couple of smaller practice amps.
Unless you need to play a medium size or larger venue without sound reinforcement, or don't like/want the Blackface tone, it's kind of the standard.

That says a lot. I always appreciate feedback from owners. That says even more.

Still, if I could’ve sourced one used locally…I would’ve. Unfortunately there were none available. Quote:

Been there many times. Recently I was debating selling a particular piece of gear and my wife said, “Why? You’ll just buy another…”
I can’t argue. That said, I have an 65 DRRI incoming this week. I’m certainly looking forward to it!

I have a vintage 1964 Deluxe Reverb and I love the clean tones I get from it, but to get any kind of overdrive I'm talking way too loud for my ears. If I'm going to record heavier stuff with it, I use a Revival Drive by Origin Effects in front of it and it sounds great. Typically though I just use a smaller amp
