You two have more in common than liking my guitars, as you can probably tell by your handles!

You have me pegged, sir. I have two of Bruce's guitars that I watched being built on this forum. Always exciting to see one come together.

That is not fishing line. It is a teflon filler strip used as a place holder for the shell while gluing up the rest of the rosette. You glue in your b/w/b or whatever lines you are using and add the Teflon strip as a filler until the glue dries. Then you pull it out and fit the shell into the gap left by the strip of teflon.
Since shell strips are not always uniform, it is best to fit the pieces to a uniform channel than to fit everything else to the shell strips. It results in a gap free rosette or purfling installation. Beautiful wood by the way. I enjoy Bruce's build threads so keep the pics a-coming!

Thank you for your insight and I will say your timing is fortuitous in that Bruce provides a pic that shows this exact process as you described……….Steve

Thank you, I also think it is going to have a lot of character for Pernambuco.

There will be a total of four rings when complete with and Ebony bound sound hole. Getting ready for the second ring:

There'd been some hope that I'd get all for Paua rings in today, but since I am using HHG for the wood bits, it's a little slower than that. Looks like tomorrow morning will do it though! So far it's looking pretty crisp to me.

Did someone say PERNAMBUCO???

Steve, nice picks on the top & back here. Great minds obviously think alike I think you'll be quite pleased with the holy trinity of acoustics...

Primo Eurospruce top + nicely quartered Pernambuco back/sides x Bruce Sexauer = HOLY TRINITY OF ACOUSTICS!

I know a bit about the Holy Trinity myself...Enjoy!!!

What do I win? Maybe Bruce will send me a box of Brazilian rosewood kerfs!

That ^^^ is really funny to about three people.

Next time I kerf RW I'll be sure to send it to you! I'd happily trade it for a bucket (or less) of white prop wash.

For those who wonder why this could possibly be humorous, kerfing is the space between material, kind of like donut holes. Then too, no one kerfs RW, it is the province of Mahogany and that ilk.

Tony, now that Bruce has explained it, I expect that 81.78% of Luthiers would get the joke

A little bit of sanding to do and then I think if we put a round hole bound in ebony in the middle we will have a rosette!!!!
