Jeffrey Elliott Steel String Cutaway First Base Coat
I just received these pictures from Jeff and Cyndy of the steel sting guitar he is building for me.
It is the first base coat (primer/filler) of the guitar with the tortoise shell quilt mahogany from "The Mahogany Tree". It now shows what the wood looks like. In another month, end of October, the French Polish should be on and the real characteristics of the wood should come to life. The viens in the wood will be much more prononced and the depth of the wood should increase dramatically. I hope you enjoy the photos. Absolutely gorgeous, Larry! I will be out of town for the next Portland Guitar Society meeting, but I'll let Jeff know how beautiful I think your guitar is coming along when next I see him. Can't wait to see more pictures. Congratulations on an absolutely stunning guitar!

That wood almost looks like the pattern has been painted on. I'm not a mahogany fan at all really, but that is gorgeous.

Billy and Coke Zero thanks for the nice comments on the wood. This is definitely not your normal mahogany. I can't wait to see the final finish on the guitar. Not only does it look nice, Jeff told me the tap tone on the instrument is amazing.

Beautiful wood, for sure. Jeff's work is fabulous. I hope there's some way we'll be able to hear it when it's done. I've never heard one of his steel strings. Until your earlier posts, I didn't know he built them.

The guitar Jeff is building for me has radius, and not a classical shaped neck, but a traditional steel string shape. |

Stunning wood, and the guitars that I have heard, made with "the tree", sounded great.

Larry,
That is a beautiful guitar. Will your guitar be French polished entirely or just the top? I love FP and it should be a perfect [tonal] compliment to a gorgeous set of wood. Thanks for sharing. |
