Relatively Easy is relatively easy...not really but it's a ball to play. Not really hard but the D run and the drop D G chord may be a little challenging. Love it though.

Thanks for posting that...I decided to learn it, and tabbed it out. Not precisely accurate, for example in one bridge part it looks like he does a straight A instead of a A7, and it doesn't catch the hammers on the Emin riff, and he is playing some sort of weird Csus chord in the instrumental interlude.

Close enough to start learning the nuances. By the way, here is the Cmin chord, which is technically a Cmin Add 9.

http://jguitar.com/chordname?string5...g1=3&string0=x

Intro: G Em C D (blues walkdown )

I got a (G) glass of wine,
I got a cigarette(G7th)
I should be(C) feeling fine(C7)
I ain't feeling (Cm) nothing yet
She's leading the (G)second line (Em)
Feel like I'm in (C)front of it(C7)
I (D) guess I am tonight(G)
(Walkdown to D/D7th)

I got a (G) cigarette,
my glass is empty now (G7th)
I got a (C) little white(C7)
I ain't gonna (Cm) break it out
I need something to (G) let me down (Em)
When I’m (C)down and out(C7)
I (D) guess I am tonigh t(G)
(Walkdown to G7th)

She (C) told me I took the best (Cm) years of her life
And (G) she was only (F#) seventeen(G7th)
She (C) swore I would leave her(C7)
But I (Cm) didn't believe her
I called (A7) it all a bad dream(D) (D7th)

I should move on to (G) whisky now,
I've got a Lucky left (G7th)
Should go out an (C) hit the town(C7)
But this town can (Cm) hit itself
My baby’s a (G) day away (Em)
And I’ve got a (C)show to play(C7)
In (D) Birmingham tonight (G)

Blues Solo or Verse Chords end on G7

There was time (C) (C7)
When she would (Cm) laugh in my face
Or just (G) sit and judge (Em7) me silently(G) (G7)
I (C)cried on her shoulder(C7)
All the (Cm) things that I told her
Guess I (A7) didn’t say enough about me (D) (D7th)

Now hurricanes (G)
And hand grenades(G7th)
They’re the (C) only things(C7)
That get you off my (Cm) mind
But I’m a (G) day away(Em)
and I've got a (C) show to play
In (D7th)Birmingham tonight (Em) (Esus) (G) (G7)

I'm a (C) day away (C7)
And I've got a (D7th) show to play
In Birmingham tonight(G)

(Blues Walkdown End on G)

"New South Wales" is easy and fun to play. C-F-G is all you need. Capo on 4, IIRC, to play along with Jason. Ultimate Guitar's chord sheet has it as D-G-A with capo on 2. This works too, but I like the C-shape fingering to do the walk-down during the refrain ("but I swear the land it listened to the stories that we told...")

EDIT: Shoot, I missed your "no F" request in the OP...my bad! In that case, by all means go with what's posted on Ultimate Guitar. Upon YouTube review it looks like that's how the man himself plays it anyway.

Thx, Karl K. Your tab is very close to mine. The only difference I see is where you have "And (G) she was only (F#) seventeen(G7th)" I have a D/F# instead of F#. I'll try your version when I get a chance. Great song, fun to play.

KarlK, I think I was right (ha!) about the D/F# vs. F#. Try it out, let us know what you think.

The first two Jason Isbell songs i learned were "Cover Me Up" which i play capo'd on the 2nd fret in standard tuning
He did this version on Austin City Limits and it sounds great.

Also "Different Days" It is pretty simple once you get the little intro progression down that he uses through the song.

So I'm giving Razor Town a shot. Can anyone tell when to up strum in the intro? I'm using the Ultimate Guitar app tab for this one. I tried looking on a live video, but can quite see it.

Thanks

Yes, you are right. But, alas, two things.

1. I simply cannot get my fingers to do the D/F# chord.

2. As a result, what I do when I play the song, is just hit the single note F# on the low E. It's my way of faking it!!

Meanwhile, watch how JI does it in the vid above -- right at 1:34. He's just depressing the low E 2nd fret, the G string 2nd fret, and B string third fret. No high e 2nd fret to get the full D shape. It's great to see when the pro is "faking it!!"
