You've been playing for 30 years, so I'll assume you know what a good guitar - regardless of price - looks/feels/sounds like...

Don't touch this one with a ten-foot pole...

Save your money, trade/sell one of your current instruments if you must, but buy quality the first time out - you'll never go wrong...

If you need specific advice regarding electric guitars/amps - the latter being a (if not the) major component of your final tone - there's a whole bunch of stuff on this subforum, posted by a very knowledgeable group of folks who would be more than glad to help...

A star caster is even lower than the lowest Squier you can buy. Should be good as firewood though.

I don't see any link in OP's question.

IIRC Starcasters can vary in quality. Some are the equivalent of a Squier.
I remember a friend getting one at Sam's Club that was part of a starter package with amp, that was a decent guitar...

But it is your chance to be the only one on the block...

I do remember the original ads on the back cover of Guitar player Magazine with the image of a guy (right) who was a sue-quality, spitting image of Tom Scholz. The ad hit right after Tom became famous, too. I do believe he went through a "molest-stache"* period some time in there too...

The other fun funkiness was that Fender seemed to be trying to get rid of the back stock of knobs from their "Fender Blender" fuzz boxes on this guitar.

Mmmm... No. I owned one for about a week in '74.

Bob

* Learned that one from my sons. It doubled me up with laughter, even though they applied it to '80s period pics of me.

Wrong Starcaster, Bob - that's the good one, the OP's is the cheapo Strat knockoff sold in the wholesale clubs every Christmas...

In all seriousness, a star caster is worth the $50 more often than not. It’s as a fair of a deal as it gets. I would get it only because I have enough spare parts laying around to make a decent playing and sounding guitar out of it. But as is, I wouldn’t bother plugging into a quality amp.
