Bought a starter acoustic in the fall of 1989.

Went through periods where I was content to strum chords, eventually got more serious, learned theory, studied technique, plugged in, learned bass, got a minor in music.

Played live, in different bands, then (once I had learned how to actually sing) solo acoustic.

People say I'm good, but people who ply guitar know I'm an amateur at best. I think I'm a hack.

I began playing in the mid-80s, mostly electric with occasional weekend acoustic jams with my uncle in the early 90s. I took a 10 year hiatus (2005-2015), switching to mostly acoustic. It's been much more enjoyable this second time around!

I started in 1969. You would think I would get there by now.

Started playing ten years ago at 40. Seven of those years were just playing electric. At first I wanted to play like Gilmour, Angus and Clapton. My goals are somewhat more modest these days.

Been playing acoustic for three years.

I played three or four years in the mid 80's then I moved to a new town and found it impossible to find others to play with, I quickly stagnated and moved on to other pursuits. I started over pretty much from scratch a bit over four years ago. New town and many friends to pick with now.

Hi to all . It's been 53 years in February and still just as excited each time I pick up a guitar. I've only been playing acoustic fingerstyle 100% for the last seven years and it's been a very interesting journey . Nowadays not too many gigs but I play at church most Sunday's

1983.

Switched to bass after a few months, but have always had a guitar or two around.

Christmas of 1977. I'm an intermediate jazz/rock drummer and was playing in a band in high school and picked up the guitar. I was wanting one bad and my parents bought me a Yamaha FG-335. I'm a much better drummer than guitarist, but spend about 90% of the time playing guitar now. I used to lead the music at two different churches. I consider myself a light-intermediate guitar player and blues-guitar hack. I play like SRV in my dreams.

1969. You’d really think I’d be better by now.

Ive had several periods of no playing for several years in that period. Early on I picked up chords very quickly and that carried me since. And I like playing rhythm. I played tuba in HS.

Been playing again consistently for the last 5 years. Playing in a folk music association, and have progressed more in the last few years than I have since after the first few years I played.

I hope I play until I die.

Hang in their, my friend. You’re not alone. I started playing at 63 and have been at it for about 3 1/2 years. I practice daily for a couple hours and still suck. But I suck a lot less than I used to.

I started playing in 1961. "Tom Dooley" was the first song that I learned.
