Don't hold your breath even waiting for my first inlay that's usable on an instrument.. I've got three left hands and I'm right handed..

Could you consider putting 2 of your left hands on ebay and then pick up one right in a trade...one right in hand is better than 2 left in the bush????? I think my mother use to say that....

Great suggestions thanks. I've been making a little progress recently. I initially posted what I was doing on here but it got moved. Here's the thread on mandolin cafe for anyone interested.

And my latest attempt.

Looks like it's shaping up to be the gryphon inlay to save the world Trevor

I'm pretty confident that if I tried anything like that, I'd have fewer fingers than Django Reinhardt within seconds of picking up the saw...

I didn't see it elsewhere in the thread, but are there any generalizations that can be made about the sound of Ziricote?

I remember seeing it used for so many things in Belize, and found it so visually fascinating - such a deep 3-dimensional look to the grain pattern.

Can't wait to see more!

This is a snippet of an earlier post, which included a description of ziricote's sonic character:

Hope that helps!

Thanks Jon, definitely very interesting and sounds appealing to me. I love the look of the wood, so it's cool to hear it should sound amazing as well!

More pictures from Ray... and a distinctly guitar-shaped set at that!

Closed body from the front (Euro spruce):

Closer view, rosette detail:

Soon to be an endgraft:

Ziricote variations:

Ray reports being very, VERY happy with how this is looking and sounding! He'll be binding it next (ebony, in order to frame but not distract from the ziricote) which will result in more pictures soon

I did receive pictures of the soundboard bracing, but Ray asked that I not post them publicly. (Contravention of this request apparently results in Dementors being sent from Azkaban on a mission to terminate with extreme prejudice ) I will say that the craftsmanship evident in them is mind-blowing! In terms of layout etc. there are subtle changes in the cross-section of some braces compared to other builds I've seen, as well as other more obvious differences in position, orientation (to a degree) and the way certain of them are linked to those adjacent.

I'm so happy with the way this build is turning out!

That will be a great day Trevor! I've been holding my breath ever since we started: not too long left now...

Thanks Billy

I'm really getting a kick out of watching this come together... it almost just seems like a bonus that I get a guitar at the end of the process!

How's that beautiful maple 00 of yours?

Jon

Is there a thread about the Maple OO? I've only just seen a pic in an email newsletter from Ray.
