Default Can Music Influence Your Health?

For many years there's been a lot of experiments on the effects of music on plant growth and ice crystal formation. In the past few years this same curiosity has been focused on the healing affects of music on humans.

Here's a couple of examples.

and

Do you have any other examples, links or anecdotes on the healing power of music, sound or vibration?

I used to be a dairy farmer and we kept music on 24 hours a day for "the girls". Cow's milk production is easily measured and readily and quickly responds to all sorts of stimuli. What I read at the time indicated they milked better with music, provided it was not rock. Classic gave the best results.

I'll bet no one else gives this answer.

Yes, music can definitely affect your health. Certainly your mental and emotional health, which is shown to have positive benefits on physical health.

In terms of vibrations, more generally, yes. Ultrasound is used in many therapeutic ways. And they use sound waves to break up kidney stones.

Mando Bob breeds canarys. Come breeding and egg laying time, they listen to BBC Radio 2 (AOR) 24/7. He says it helps a lot.

I believe and can't imagine anyone holding allot of stress while playing guitar. I mean making music not just sounds.

I asked my doctor once about stress I was feeling. He asked what I did for a hobby. I said that I play guitar. He asked if I felt stressed when I played guitar. I said no of coarse. He said well keep doing it. So I'm under doctors orders.

For sre...My mom was in a nursing home..she started to fade mentally very rapidly. But when musicians came in and played for them you could see the reaction..They tapped their fingers in time..moved their heads,..smiled. I have been studying this for some time...elderly patients reaction to music. Its been one year since she died..I dont go to the home anymore. But I need to return to play, with a partner if I can find one. Its seemed to me to be the most important part of their therapy to stay mentally in with the world...It works.

Mental health most certainly, which can be just as important to quality of life as physical health.

GHS is spot on .. go to any nursing home and observe how the folks respond to music. Even where memory is fading, the positive effects of music endure.

When Mum was in her last weeks I made a CD of her favourite songs. It was the only thing that brought her back into the room. As soon as the music stopped she slipped back into I don't know where.
That's gotta be good for a person.

Default Musical cheese

Music even has an effect on bacteria.
A Swiss cheese maker played different styles of music to wheels of maturing Emmental. Blind tasting revealed that the "Hip Hop Cheese" was the best!

Music can have an opposite effect as well.In Toronto there was a 7-11 in a rough neighbourhood and the street people would hang around outside the store making more stable folks uneasy so the owners piped classical music through outside speakers and all the undesirables moved across the street.Beauty is in the ear of the beholder apparently.
