Default NGD Deferred: 17 Miles Away

I really biffed this. My brand new D-18 was delivered to my office yesterday, one day after I had surgery on my left foot. What was I thinking? The doc gave me a boot and gave me leave to hobble about. My plan was to hop in the car today, drive to my office in downtown L.A., pick up the Martin and get acquainted with my leg up and the dread on my lap.

Fate had other ideas. Once the nerve block wore off, my foot screams with pain if I even look at it wrong. The boot does a fine job at many things, such as immobilizing my toe, getting in the way of everything and impersonating a ski boot, but it does not let me walk pain free, and there is no way I could walk the 5 minutes from the garage to my office. To make it worse, my Taylor 114e was in the shop having a new nut made (the high E string kept slipping off the fretboard) and it was supposed to be done before all of this. It's done, sitting at McCabe's. So I have all this downtime and no guitar.

I know the D18 is in the shipping box from Sweetwater in the corner of my darkened office. It's probably scared, lonely and wondering where its dad is. It has not responded to my text messages, saying I would be there as soon as I could. My cat has been extra solicitous, in that intuitive way animals have. He knows something is up.

The real NGD will be that much sweeter; the pics more vibrant; and the experience more fulfilling. But I really, really could have planned this better. Idiot.

As a practical matter, there is no way to do this. I have nobody to do it for me. I guess that this will be quite the incentive to heal more quickly, right? RIGHT?

That sinks dude. Truly awful.

If I lived there I would gladly grab both your guitars for you. I hate that for you. Your guitars are just what you need right now.

Sorry to hear. Get well soon.

Well since no one else is stepping up, I will jump on the grenade. Just send me your office address, security access code, and phone number. I will retrieve the D-18, quarantine it for several days to make sure it is not contagious and has no factory defects, and then make arrangements with you for the delivery.

If it turns out to be an extra special instrument, there may be a ransom note involved...
Seriously, hope you are on the mend soon!

Fire, you are a gentleman and a scholar, as Holden Caulfield would say! Yes, I do want to make sure that no Nazareth-based virus enters Los Angeles via dreadnought, and I know that we all share this concern. If the only way to make sure is for you to step up and thoroughly test that potential "Guitar Zero", then yes, thank you. Access code is "Zager".

I actually do work for the Public Health Department, so my credentials are impeccable and my character unimpeachable. It is possible that Martin imports some of its tonewoods from West Africa. You can't be too careful these days!
