Default Big F Chord

Been struggling with it, but tonight I finally figured out where to position the barre to make it work for me. So for anyone out there struggling, trust me it can be done, my advice more than anything is keep experimenting with where your index finger has to go to make every note ring out.

I always have trouble with sour notes on that one. Bb flat sucks.

Nothing makes barre chords easier then a good set up...

There is one thing that makes them easier than that even: a capo. :-P

Moveable chord system.

No pain, no gain guys. When I was young (18) I did this book with heavy gauge. Manup

I'm OK on the low frets, so F, G and even A work pretty well. My barres fall apart around B then get progressively worse.

Doesn't matter what guitar with what scale.

Yep. I can sympathize with people starting out since we've all been there, but barre chords are a fundamental part of guitar playing. Just gotta stick with it.

I struggle with barres further up the neck but if the guitar is set up proper, F, B, etc aren't any problem.

Hi GrantPage,
Yep. Now you've opened up the whole fret board. Practicing pays dividends.

I play fewer barres than I used to, but the time I took to get them down was doubly worth it.

It should get easier up the neck, at least it does on my guitars, but I'm not a flat picker, so I keep the action low.

The magic move on barre chords is to realize that - voila! - your index finger just needs to hold down the strings that your other fingers aren't. By no means do you need to press down hard. For an F chord, all you want with your index finger is the two treble-most strings and the one bass-most. The other fingers do the dirty work in between.
