Default Comments on G7th capos

Any good for thick necks like an authentic? Will they work with fan frets? Can they partially capo four strings only?

Thx everyone in advance

They work fine with my fan fret. Has a 25-26 scale. Tried doing just four strings, but the curvature doesn't seem to match up and won't cleanly hold the string.

I can use my Performance on a 12 string thick neck up a ways. Works well and they have a 12 sting version too.

I've tried using them as partial capos with mixed luck (Performance Series - Original versions).

Depending on the location on the neck, sometimes it works great, other times just cannot get a purchase as the two 'grip wedges' on the back are in the centre and designed to fit down the centreline of the neck.

Biggest problem with doing partial capo's with them is that if I accidentally knock the capo with my left hand, it tends to skew. Placing it so the opening faces downwards tends to help that though - although that only works if you want to partial capo the bass strings!

I don't know about 4 but Maneli uses his to cover 5 a lot. There might be a video of him using it on 4 only.

They can definitely capo 5, but I can't get it to hold 4 properly. I don't have an authentic, but can set it all the way up on the 11th fret of my guitar.

The only capo I can successfully get to capo four strings only, is the C5-r (radiused banjo/mandolin capo).

I switched my Performance out for a Newport which is now my favorite capo.

I like mine because the tension is finely adjustable. This makes it ideal to use on my 19th century parlor and my nylon string. The downside of the G7 is its heft. I prefer a Shubb on my more modern 6 strings.

I can't comment on how they work with Authentic necks, but I use my G7th Performance Capo (original) all the time on my fan fret (25.25" to 26"). Works fantastically.

I also have a G7th Nashville, but never use it - the Performance just works.

I have the performance classical guitar version and the Newport for my steel strings. Love the Newport, it's my favorite as well. The regular performance works great also but is quite heavy and just threw my balance off a bit, overall fantastic capos. Never been able to just capo 4 strings, 5 is fine though.

Ive had mine for over 10 years and would give it an okay. Sometimes its a little muffled and have to focus and readjust to get it just right. I find myself preferring spring clamps

Thx everyone for the sound advice. I'll give one a try. I have an Elliott that is top notch but is clearly not meant for partial capos.
I could always buy one and hollow out the pads if I was just using it for partial string work.

They make the Newport in 3 and 5 string partial versions now.

^ As a G7th user, I'm in agreement with zenith.

In defence of any capo manufacturer, they make them to satisfactorily cover either 6 or 12 strings.

I have a Shubb partial capo which is brill at what it does.
