Default Nylon String Guitars - Recommendations?

I've been considering a Nylon stringed guitar to add to my "family" and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or recommendations?

Without knowing your price range or general preferences, it's going to be difficult to make any recommendations.

I'm always looking for the best compliment and oftentimes guitar purchasing decisions are driven by emotion, feel...and of course budget is very important.

Generally, I would like something like the Taylor I posted the link to but my experience with Nylon is not a lot. I don't know what is a good classical.for example..

I've always owned steel stringed acoustics..

Classically trained guitarists are an inspiration...I especially like Christopher Parkening and have seen him in concert but I've never gone that route lesson wise...although I fumble through "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring"...I would like to improve in that department though...hence the interest in a good nylon instrument.

Does that help?

If you have any interest in standard classical guitars, do yourself a favor and look into Francisco Navarro or his son Marlin Navarro guitars. Really really nice sound and not too expensive. Google them and you find lots of nice comments.

Looks like we got moved.....................I went to school in the 70's but your friend was not me, sorry.

I have a Taylor NS44CE nylon, similar to the one in the video link. I also have a Cervantes Crossover. They cost me about the same and I would say the Cervantes is a much nicer and better sounding guitar.

My Taylor is 6 or 7 years old now and is much better sounding than it was when new.

Steve

You haven't given much to go on. My recommendation is either a Lowden S32J or Avalon A32J or both.

If it's possible you should probably visit a guitar store like GC that has both crossover & classical guitars in stock to try the different neck widths. If you you want to get seious about playing classical I'd suggest going with a guitar that has at least a 2" width, it will help your technique. Most crossovers have a neck width around 1 & 7/8", if you want a cutaway then you'll have the largest selection in crossovers. There aren't many classical width guitars with a cutaway.
Regards,
Ed

I think my Ramirez 2CWE has a 2" nut width. It feels more like a classical than a crossover to me but it also has a cutaway, which was important to me.

If you can find a used 2CWE for $1000-$1200 or so I would recommend trying it out.

Default Nylon

For what it's worth from an old fart....I too love the sound of nylon, didn't want to pay for a nice Spanish guitar as a starting point. I won ebay bid of a La Partie concert, part of the Godin group,ie seagull, for $395....first year of all solid wood, mahagony back and sides, cedar top. Solid nylon for the money, added a d-tar soundspot which is awesome, plug into my loud box mini. Learned to play all the Christmas classics this past winter. Check them out. I thought the 2 inch nut would be too much for me, but I got use to it. Just a thought. If u enjoy nylon that much, then u can go after the high end ones.
