Take these lyrics and see what you can do. They're strange because they don't rhyme. But, if you read through them a few times musical imagery will begin to gather momentum.

I smashed my left hand, can't play, and decided while I'm on the mend I might otherwise make my usual nuisance felt. See if a song comes from this and, by the grace of creative license or mere artistic happenstance, render them any way befitting your muse.

Untitled

It’s Sunday once again
A day that I observe
To greet the folks I know
While I sit in our town square

I sip a cup of coffee
And read the local news
Familiar voices say hello
And we talk about things

There’s old Mrs Stevens
Leaning on her walker to talk
She tells her nurse Elizabeth
To take a little stroll

She talks about the kids these days
And scolds their parents good
She‘s paid her dues the hard way
Just listen, and you’ll know

Mr. Peters sits a while
Talking mostly sports
He always knows the best plays
I’m told he was a coach

There’s a garden in the square
And a Sherman tank nearby
Mr. Colby knows it’s story
Old soldiers usually do

Then Mrs. Allen soon appears
And asks me how I am
She goes on about home remedies
But, you know, I’m always fine

John will stand and wave his hands
Going on with his views
And what’s best for our nation
He’s a man of his time

Ed and Sue always walk
Hand-in-hand like kids
Old now and inseparable
Behind my smile I feel alone

Margaret never says too much
Going home from church
She lost her husband in a war
She’s been lost ever since

Sunday brings them all to me
Through the day in the square
I help them reminisce or
Just lend an ear, a nod and smile

And I’ve sat upon this park bench
Each Sunday a couple years
And have say I’ve enjoyed
Each and every one
