Default silly question but.....

are classical guitars tuned to standard like a steel string?
A few years ago i heard that they were tuned step up from standard on a steel string,it stuck with me and i remembered it while putting nylon strings on my backpacker today.Right now it's tuned to standard and sounds good to me.Was this bit of info from an uninformed guitarist or does it have a ring of truth to it?

That was a bit of misinformation. Concert pitch (A = 440Hz) is the standard for steel string and classical guitars.
