Fahey, Basho, Kottke and Renbourn. Not to mention all the delta, piedmont and country blues guys who I dont sound like but are a major inspiration.

This may reveal my age, but Dave Matthews John Mayer and jack Johnson were the ones that influenced me early on and causes me to pick up the acoustic in the first place. Jack Johnson was the primary style influencer.
But since then, Dave Rawlings, John Moreland, Townes Van Zandt, doc Watson, Bryan Sutton and Seth avett have been my greatest influences.

If I had to pick a performance that best conveys my style of play, it would be this Tony Rice performance. Please give it a listen.

Andy McKee was the catalyst after many years as a fusion/jam band bassist. I enjoy most genres of instrumental songs with prominent acoustic playing.

Everyone I've heard on acoustic did something for me,.. what to do, what I can't do (John Hurt) and what i shouldn't do.
But my close bud, Bill Sheffield inspired me to play w/ my fingers (even though he uses a thumb pick) and that's the greatest influence on my playing beside what I bring to the mix. |

My biggest influence and incentive came from Vera. You've never heard of Vera?
Vera was my recently deceased mother who bought me a guitar and paid for lessons when I was 12 years old. I've enjoyed guitars ever since. Thanks Ma! |

Out of the gate, one man and one song.
Mason Williams' Classical Gas. After getting that melody down everything else I had a mind to cover came easy. |
