Default Chet Atkins

Hey guys,

I've recently been getting into Chet Atkins, and his incredible right hand technique. I'm trying to learn his magical ways, but i'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Is there a certain song or lesson I should begin with?

He goes over some of the basics of the boom-chick technique. Practice the right hand thumb a whole bunch to get it second nature.

Windy and Warm is good song to get going with.

Chet made a couple of guitar tuition DVDs, what better place to start.

While that is true, it is also worth pointing out that their styles do differ in regards to how the thumb is used. Chet was a little more exacting with his bass note selection whereas Travis was more concerned with that powerful, driving sound.
