Default What guitar for $XXX amount?

What would you buy for $XXX amount...a Dreadnought Baby Taylor, Yamaha, Breedlove, Seagull or GAD Guild Guitar for the same price?

I would buy the one that sounded the best and felt the best.
Then I would look to see what brand I just bought.

These guitars are all very equivalent in make and woods used.
Some have ply sides and backs and others are all solid wood.

In the end, it just comes down to the one that you like best.

emirate25 - there are no Dread Baby Taylors. The Baby Taylor is a 'small' guitar and is not a dread. Which Taylor are you talking about?

according to this thread title, he means a big baby.

if it were me, i'd probably go for a blueridge br-40, a seagull s6 or investigate one of the entry level all solid recording kings. that being said, i like the yamaha fg730s. they all have different traits, and it's sometimes a matter of prioritizing your preferences. i like a wide nut, which most lower cost guitars don't have. the seagull s6 does, and when i wanted a dread at this price range, i got an s6, which not only had a great neck but great tone. i really liked it. but i like the blueridge's bassier sound a lot, so it would be a rough call.

what kind of tone or neck do you prefer?

I went through the same decision process a few years ago and decided on the S6, primarily for the chunky, wide neck. The fact it also sounds fantastic is just icing on the cake. I've had a lot of guitars come and go, but the S6 (actually two of them, now) is still here.

If you are comfortable with a 1 11/16" neck, then you have plenty options, as Patticake says above. If you like a wider neck, then your selection pool becomes much, much smaller.
