Default Help me find the right CF guitar

My wish list:

Smaller (OM) Body Shape

Great Non Amplified and amplified tone

Lighter string tension from standard acoustics (Shorter Scale???)

Under $2500.00

Anything out there fit the bill??

Thanks in advance for all of your suggestions.

Ron

Your budget is healthy enough that there are possibilities from Composite Acoustics (perhaps a GX model, but is only offered in full scale length), Emerald (X20 model which offers many neck customization options including full scale, short scale, 12 fret, custom neck carve...though such customizations could put one over budget) and Rainsong (a number of models, some which are standard 12 fret).

I have a Rainsong full-scale dreadnought and it has noticeably lower string tension from the many wood acoustics I have owned and played, so short scale might not be necessary.

The Savoy is much smaller than an OM that the OP referenced though Jon. It’s more of an O/parlor.

I think there is a nice slightly used Lucky 13 still available in the classifieds here. That might fit your bill.

Better hurry because it will probably go fast at that asking price. Nice thing is you could sell it with little or no loss after your next CF GAS attack.

Respectfully Tom, and I'm a multi-CF owner, but how does CF lower string tension? My understanding is, for a given string, string tension is proportional to scale, period.

I believe you meant the CH-OM. The CH-PA is a Parlor size. But otherwise this is also what immediately came to mind (and would give cash to spare).

Later

Must still have the bloody parlor on my mind.

PA = 0 size
OM = 000 size
WS = 0000 (or pretty close)

I have asked Rainsong several times to build a 00 size but so far they claim there is not enough demand.

The CA GX wide neck (1 3/4 at nut like an OM) with onboard aura.

Great guitar all around unplugged and amplified

Stainless steel frets, contoured body, great low end and sustain.

I played a Rainsong OM today. It was incredible. The CH-OM fits your requirements rather well...

I have no idea about the science; I just know that in terms of playability, it has a looser feel than most guitars that I have played. It is easier to fret and to make the notes ring. It is just my impression, and maybe it has nothing to do with string tension, but I know what I feel.

For what it is worth, I also feel a significant difference between guitars with 1-23/32" and those with 1-3/4" nut widths; many people do not. I also hear a significant difference with wooden guitars by switching the end pins from plastic or tusq to bone (and that difference can be good or bad); many people do not. They are just my impressions, but I know what I feel and hear.
