Scrap the LP vs. Strat scat. Their are only two guits to consider: a Tele and an ES335.

A Stratocaster is arguably the most ergonomically designed electric guitar ever.

Easily upgradeable, neck swaps are 4 screws and some truss rod adjustment. Can't do that with a set neck Paul.

Likewise, the pickguard is easily removed and opened up so electronics can easily be modified, worked on, pickups swapped or custom wiring done. Those things can be done on a Paul, but are harder.

A typical Stratocaster weighs 7 pounds, while Pauls can weigh as much as 10 or more.

And as mentioned, a Stratocaster's 5 positions gives it more tonal flexibility. Can sound like anything, except a Les Paul, which only a Les Paul can sound like.

And the Stratocaster has a tremolo if you so wish to use it.

Ah, I knew the Ford vs. Chevy thing would have to rear its ugly head. Horse for courses, my friends. Life would be, and IS boring at guitar festivals where people only play one type of guitar.

they are both so iconic that it depends upon the sound you are after as well as what you are willing to spend. if you get one, eventually you'll get the other.

play music!

They do great things with the tremolo/vibrato.

It didn't work out for me when I had a guitar with one.
