Thank for your input Red, I will think of that when I annonce a new form of challenge.

those ended up being more of a showcase of talent. i would have preferred that participants learned a new tune, or created a new arrangement, rather than post links to stuff they did years ago.

Yes! I couldn't remember what those were called. As a beginner, I HAD to learn a new tune if I wanted to participate so I kinda forgot that you could post a link to something from the past. I agree with you, it should be something new.

Ok guys nice feedback everyone ! Here is a proposition for a challenge type post.

The goals and rules would be :
1- to challenge yourself to arrange a song with your ability and taste.
2- learn, share and express your creativity
3- No winner, No looser, No prize (I have nothing to offer )
4- open to all style of playing
5- open to all instruments, including singing and gazzoo
6- you can post video or audio, new only (contribution with a date before the date of the challenge, could be removed, but I do not know how)
7- categorie of expected songs will be annonced in the thread of the challenge.
8- comments are welcome. It MUST BE one positive and one thing that could be done better in your opinion.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THAT FORMAT?

Not bad but I thing a little to loose no disrespect
but its a challenge so give one ...

pick a subject matter give us something to focus on not just a free for all or whatever . This make sense ? choose a topic to focus on theres tons of things pictures or feelings or nature or space etc :

a focal point make sense of the challenge . As I mentioned you can't do something to fit all types but even if its outside of someones normal comfort zone this gives an opportunity to think outside the box ... to do something their not used to doing or would never have thought of .

This should be a learning exercise to help develop ones skills and imagination if I always wrote the same O'l stuff with no influences chances are my music would get stale and I don't think many would want that so we need stimuli to open the doors to new experiences.

This is where our stories come from our interpretations of what we see ,hear and feel .

Make sense ? hope I'm not over steeping my bounds

Nope, it is okay, I see your point, thanks.

This is just the format of the challenge. I will start another thread with the goals and rules explained separately and the challenge (limits and orientation) and the time we have to participate (2 months probably).

I have in mind a few categories of challenge to start with : rearrange a Beatle - a christmas song - rearrange a movie soundtrack song.

Does that makes sense?

I will wait a bit before tarting the challenge for real, waiting for your input guys.

yes but skill level is a big part . just as a example Beatles not for me or any other music from another . i would want to create from scratch but thats just me so those types of challenges I would avoid but other folks I know I would love it but how many would it appeal to ?

a good tool would be reviewing responses to posted music .
why does one song get more attention then another ?
but that is a masses thing and one that needs curbing LOL
Me I'd start at the bottom think of a topic that beginners and others can grasp besides a set song or play that many don't no about or understand .

I guess what i think would be a topic as example would be a tree everyone knows what a tree is so to write a song about this would be somewhat easy and would appeal to many.

but I digress

I see that it can be interesting to create something completely new , inspired from a picture, for example, as you stated. But I am interrested by arrangements of song already written, the different ways that people could come up with.

Also guys if you want to start a challenge with yours goals and rules, please do so. I will surely contribute to it.

I just want a place oriented on arrangment to focus on with other guitarist to exchange with.
