Challenge !

Hello guys, I would like to hear you do some song arrangements.

It has to be a chord melody (no singing), fingerstyle (thumb pick or not) on the acoustic guitar or electric guitar.

Here are 3 choices of song to arrange.
1-Imagine -John Lennon
2-Smile -Charlie Chaplin, Geoffrey Parson, John Turner
3-Eleanor Rigby -Beatles

yeah, me too I am curious too to see the creativity of others on those songs.

Yeah me too, I was hoping more enthusiasm. I was aiming to create a social group but I need to be a charted member to do so.

Maybe if I leave the challenge open to every song they want?

I just want to share our creativity.

I just did Imagine on video today. I will edit and post soon.

I will wait a bit. But if you have any suggestion, i am open. You can even start one thread of challenge yourself if you want.

well, i could probably do it, but it would take me a couple of weeks to arrange a tune (i'd probably pick smile, imagine is way overdone and eleanor rigby just doesn't appeal so much to me), and then a couple of weeks to get it under my fingers.

last time i did something like this i spent many hours on it and everybody was long gone by the time i had something to share.

so that's me.

Perfect Guys take your time. For me too it takes time to come up with something creative and play it well.

I'd do it, but your parameters play away from all my strengths and you don't open the song up to others stylistically. I would love to do Imagine, but I do not fingerstyle and I can sing...You won't let me sing and I have to play it a way I don't play......

OK, thanks for sharing your situation, maybe I will change the challenge. But just for curiousity, how did you plan to arrange Imagine?

I have asked about the collab option here probably a pages in I forget names but one member posted a poem another put it to some music but not sure where it's at now lol .

Glad you offered to change the challenge abit past experience has shown me that more flexibility will get you more interest .

BoneDigger used to put together monthly 'Challenges' where there was a broad category. (songs of the 50's, songs about wind, songs by Elvis, songs originally recorded by someone of the opposite sex, whatever..) Every person that posted a recording was then entered into a month end drawing for something. For me, I liked having a new and different category each month and that format was good for a beginner like me. My 3-chord strumming version of a song had an equal chance of winning as someone else's intricate finger picking arrangement.

At my other forum we do a monthly challenge as well been doing it for years but the only thing you win is the braggers trophy lol

Also the winner selects the next challenge . Basic rules all song must be newly written we stay away from covers but were a small group .

We have a SC page where the songs are uploaded . As I mentioned winner selects the challenge me for example I posted 6 pictures each of a different thing butterfly , great wall of China etc , you were to pic a picture that you related to the most and write a song about it . On my SC page though it's old my tune Swing with accompanying picture was my entrey .

Anyways what's cool about this you get folks to start creating and that opens a lot doors as far as your writing skills also it's fun .

You get to think outside the box you'll start doing things you never thought before will it make you a rock star ? Who knows but you'll get better if you stay at it and that's all any of us can ask for .

Some challenges won't fit/work for every one , me a I can't do drums to save my life nor am I good at style changes though I love them . It's a up and down thing on entrants but that's ok if the challenge does not work this time maybe the next one will.

The hard part is doing one that can get folks on board and interested . Now I'd like to say in no way should ones skill level be put above another's nor should those just starting out feel bad because we're not as good as the other person it's about learning being creative and supportive and to be FUN !

A critique thread is good to have if anyone wants to know what he or she could better next time and what the voters liked or toes not like about a song .... Being kind is very important here also I think being comical also helps laughter is a great way to bond
