the seagull is a solid top where the larrivee is all solid. that being said, i like the seagull original S6 a lot. it has sparkle in the top end, a balanced tone and enough bass to suit me - whether it will be to your friend's taste, i wouldn't know. and the neck is thick, not just wide.

I chose the Martin OM-1 when I was looking for an all solid guitar. I played the Larry and liked it but to me the Martin was a better sound to me. Both were used and the Martin was 200 bucks cheaper(500 vs 700).
I also have a Seagull and like it alot.
If I had to pick between the Larry and Seagull I would go with the Larry.

Default Friend wants his own guitar!

He might also want to consider the much touted Eastmans members here and on other acoustic forums I frequent so often rave about. I haven't personally played one but if they are as good as people say the are, one of their OMs may be my next guitar acquisition.
