Swart amps sound a little bit tweedly, a little bit brown, a little bit Vox....and all Swart. They're a good clean to moderate OD (mostly) American voiced, cathode biased 6V6 amp....about 18-20 watts depending on rectifier. I can't say enough good things about them; I've owned the combo, and now the head & cab.

It was the Swart Atomic Jr that turned me on to amp building. That little 5W box made me wonder why I had been buying big, heavy 20W+ amps all those years. Possibly the best recording/bedroom amp I had ever heard.
Since then, I've had a lot of boutique amps, but the Swart is one of my favorites. Edited to add: Swart builds their own cabs and will customize them to your order if you give them a call.

hmm.... probably one of my Gibson Ga79RVTs or my 66 Fender deluxe reverb or my Gibson GA5t with a new weber speaker or my Sears Silvertone 1482 or my Gibson GA9 or my Gibson GA20t or my Gibson GA8t. . . . .actually, it depends upon what i'm recording at the moment. some of the amps i use for lead guitar and some for rhythm, or, this one that works well with a strat, or that one that works well with a les paul. i guess i love them all!!
see some of them in my website below.

For acoustic I prefer to go direct.
For electric it's been a Fuchs ODS 50 and 1x12 cabinet for quite a while now... |

Haven't found my "ultimate acoustic amp" yet...several I like fairly well, but nothing, so far, that REALLY blows me away.
OTOH, of all my "electric" amps, I find my "Transtube" Redline (American-made) Peavey Envoy 110 (w/ a Celestion replacing the original Blue Marvel 10"er) gives me exactly the sounds I seek, so much so that my beloved SF Fender Deluxe Reverb only gets played maybe once a month...the Envoy is just such a versatile amp! OTOH, I've heard that the new Chinese-made Transtube series are not as dependable, but as I've never owned one of those, I can't say, 1st hand. |

Depends on what guitar I'm using...
For the ES-345, my SF Fender Deluxe Reverb... w/ the bass and volume dimed, and the treble turned all the way off! Check THAT out! Something very cool happens to older Fenders when they're set up this way... For the ES-175 and/or the Taylor T-5, my solid state Yamaha - just sounds so much better for clean, clear tone... For my acoustics? My Bose L1 Model I Classic, w/ one B1 sub...

I think the sound, flexibility, look, and quality of the Mesa Boogie TA-15 is very hard to beat. If your looking for a tube amp you owe it to yourself to at least look at this.

Regarding the Swart amps, I found out that one of my very favorite guitarists, Buddy Miller, has been using them lately. Last time I saw him with Emmylou he was still playing through a pair of Vox AC-30's. Looks like he's playing through a pair of Swarts now.
