Default my first custom guitar has been started

Hi guys, I'm relatively new here - but I love what I see and in complete AWE regarding the talent here.

I'm no luthier, I can't build anything that takes longer than 45 minutes (which sadly includes most Ikea furniture)

I hired a Luthier from Illinois to build a custom acoustic for me and he recently got started.

The back and the sides are spalted tamarind:

Taking shape (with the cutaway)

The top will be curly redwood. I haven't chosen any other woods yet (still researching - so any advice would be fantastic!!)

Love that spalted tamarind

PS: Congrats on your first custom build. I am about 1-2 weeks from receiving my first custom built specifically to my needs and wants. It's an exciting process that seems to take too long even when your getting it well before any promised or aspired to deadline (as I will be). "Practice patience" has become my montra and some days I do it well and other's not so much.

Congrats again !!!

Congrats !

I, like PSYCHOJOHN, am waiting to get my hands on my first build (about a month before I can finally do so), and his comments about patience are spot on and exactly what we all go through , I guess.

That B/S wood is spectacular ; Enjoy the ride !

Kinda saddened right now, Jim told me that the spalted tamarind back wood keeps warping up on him and he's having trouble keeping it flat.

I spent a lot of time looking for the right wood and really fell in love with that piece :\

Jim ended up getting new back wood from RC Tonewoods. It was pretty nice of them to send a replacement without charge, but I'm kinda bummed as I REALLY liked the look of the one that warped.

The top is curly redwood with an amboyna burl rosette - i'm really loving the look of it!

Sorry to hear, man. RC Tonewood is a great company to deal with. They made the same offer to me when we found a little punky wood in a small place on my back piece. Trust me though, you will love what you replace it with conceit starts coming together!! This top and rosette looks awesome by the way.
