Default Oxwood OM #2- Mahogany/Western Red Cedar

I'm well underway on the Oxwood OM #2, the sister guitar of the OM for TAMCO. This one, however, is not spoken for. So, I wanted to start a build thread for it and give my friends here at the AGF the opportunity to put dibs on it early and have the opportunity to choose upgrades if desired. It is set to have black ABS bindings, BWB purfling, mahogany neck, EIR bridge/fingerboard/headstock. These Oxwood guitars are solid wood and double side construction.

If anyone would like to commit to it now, I'll upgrade the binding to EIR or Curly Maple free of charge! I'll be binding the body and building the neck this weekend so if you're interested contact me right away for your free upgrade! Thanks for looking, here it is!

The body all sanded and cleaned up, wiped with naptha.

Thanks!

Brad

Did this somehow get missed during the festive season? I certainly never saw it
Not that I would have been able to purchase it anyway.
Looks a quality instrument indeed.

Is that top redwood? It's very pretty - looking forward to seeing it under finish! Thanks for sharing.

Oh, sorry, just noticed the woods are in the title. Still, that's striking red cedar.

Thank you guys! I'll post more photos soon! We're getting our internet hooked up in the new place tomorrow. This one as well as a twin in Sitka/Mahogany may go on demo road trips, to acquaint folks with my sound and build quality. Soundclips, even if professionally recorded are no equivalent to actually holding the guitar in your hands and feeling it's voice.

This is from a billet that I sawed up a few years ago. I still have two or three matching tops left in the pile. Very stiff and resonant, I was pleased. This is the first wood that I'd sawn and seasoned myself, also, and it was really neat to hear the way it changes during the years of drying out. Thanks for watching!

I'd go with the maple binding regardless. I'm not a fan of black plastic binding on a mahogany back guitar. You'll probaly have an easier time selling it down the road, too. Looks good so far.

Very clean looking build, love the top.

How would you describe the voice of your guitars?

I'm not gonna commit but I gotta ask regrading the binding: what's ABS?

Ah. Sort of like boltaron? Rosewood or ebony would look much nicer.

I haven't seen many hog / cedar guitars with a darker rosewood binding. To me, it's just not a pleasing look. Cedar and hog looks great with maple or koa if you're leaning towards wood. Ivroid for plastic.

Black plastic binding on any mahogany / cedar guitar just looks a bit harsh and it'll give the instrument a cheaper look.

But it ain't my axe so to each their own. I just know that I wouldn't buy it like that.

Sorry, haven't been on in a few days. Yes, ABS is a plastic binding.

As you said, to each their own. I actually really like the look of the contrast between the two. I'm personally not a fan of Maple binding in general, unless next to rosewood... To put Koa on this guitar would just look totally washed out to me. We shall see!

Sorry to hijack your thread. It's been almost two months anyway; what did you decide to go with?
