Years ago I listened to a lot of Shawn Phillips. Not many people I talk to today have ever heard of him. Good stuff.

Michael McFarland. A local bluegrass/gospel artist from the Phoenix area - and no, you haven't heard of him. He's an old friend of mine and plays "like lightnin'"

Eddie Pennington (may not qualify as under the radar but probably less known than he should be). Such a charming man, too.

Richard Thompson. While most of the people on this forum recognize him most people I know have never heard of him. I can't figure out why he isn't more well known.

Maybe (hopefully) not still under the radar, but Molly Tuttle! I love her stuff and I don't even like the genre.

Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, formerly of Bothy Band and Nightnoise; I thought what he did integrating his melody and bass lines with his chording was subtle but powerful.
Nyghthawk--I still listen to Shawn Phillips; got introduced to him when I pulled a bunch of albums out of the garbage (long ago), and two were his!

Is Julian Lage considered "under the radar?" If so, him.

Russ Barenberg is getting better known, but well off the radar of the typical person.
A local friend of mine who sometimes plays open mics in places like Laguna Beach and Yorba Linda, CA is becoming my favorite melodic lead player. When he plays an acoustic lead line, he just gets me smiling. Lee Martel. |

Definitely Peter Mayer. Known mainly for playing guitar with Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefers, but a really great songwriter/player/vocalist on his own.

Howard Luetke. Great Blues player.
Couldn't find a good vid of him playing acoustic, which he's great at, so this will have to do. https://youtu.be/Xmnfk2zwLDw

A guy named Syu from the band Galneryus (think Dream theater but a bit more neoclassical).
